Professor John Hurst appointed Pro-Vice-Provost (International Health) | UCL News
We are delighted to announce the appointment this month of Professor John Hurst (UCL Respiratory Medicine) as Pro-Vice-Provost (International Health).

Professor John Hurst, currently Vice-Dean (International) in the Faculty of Medical Sciences and Professor of Respiratory Medicine, has been appointed Pro-Vice-Provost (International Health) as 0.4 FTE from October 2025.
This is a joint role between the Offices of the Vice-Provost (Health) and the Vice-Provost (Research, Innovation & Global Engagement). Professor Hurst is an academic clinician and global health expert whose research has shaped international understanding of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He brings extensive experience in global academic collaboration and leadership.
In his new role, John will provide academic and strategic leadership for the development of UCL’s emerging global health partnership with Tsinghua University, China. This partnership aims to co-create a transformative programme of education and research in healthcare, supporting UCL’s ambition to deliver impact through international partnership and to strengthen our global health presence. He will work closely with colleagues across UCL to coordinate the academic vision for this partnership and lead on developing the business case and governance structures that will underpin it.
This appointment reflects UCL’s commitment to expanding its global impact in health through strategic partnerships that align with both the Global Engagement Strategy and the emerging UCL Health Strategy, which aims to evolve our centres of excellence and shape the healthcare workforce of the future.
