Who is Todd Suntrapak, CEO of Valley Children’s Hospital? | YourCentralValley.com
FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) -With the recent discussion of a “disturbing” $2 million bonus for the CEO of Valley Children’s Hospital, Todd Suntrapak, community members may be left wondering how he has contributed to children’s healthcare.
Todd Suntrapak is known as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Valley Children’s Healthcare. The hospital is just one of 13 free-standing pediatric specialty healthcare systems in the nation.
Suntrapak has a Master’s Degree in healthcare management and has played a vital role in shaping a wide range of broad hospital policies like COVID-19 and payment reform, according to Valley Children’s Hospital.
For over 25 years, Valley Children’s says Suntrapak has worked in various leadership roles within the facility such as clinical operations, strategy, and business development. He was first named Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer in 2005 before beginning his current position in 2012.
Suntrapak has reportedly advanced the hospital into a comprehensive delivery network that currently serves 1.3 million children. He leads a team of 670 physicians, 3.500 staff, and nearly 800 volunteers and Guild members. The hospital says under his leadership, they have maintained an AA rating from S&P Global, continuous Joint Commission accreditation, recognized as one of the “Best Children’s Hospitals” in the country, and considered one of the top places to work in healthcare.
Officials state that Suntrapak also serves as a leader in the following organizations:
- California Children’s Hospital Association (including three terms as Chair)
- California Hospital Association (Executive Committee 2018-Present)
- The Hospital Council of Northern & Central California (Chair—2019-2020)
- The American Hospital Association Region 9 Policy Board
- A Mentor for the Carol Emmott Fellowship for exceptional women leaders in healthcare
The hospital reports he also uses his leadership to advance local children’s efforts such as:
- Cradle 2 Career
- Marjaree Mason Center; serves children and families affected by domestic violence
- The Preterm Birth Initiative; efforts to improve access to mental health care for our children
- The Fresno Philharmonic’s Board and children’s music programs
Under his leadership, Valley Children’s says Suntrapak has launched the Center for Community Health, a center powered by a $5 million donation from the hospital Guilds uniquely positioned to improve child healthcare. He also leads the organization’s annual investments of almost $1 million to support local community programs and services for children’s health.
