Mayapada Healthcare begins Batam international hospital project in Indonesia

Mayapada Healthcare in Indonesia has begun the development of Mayapada Apollo Batam International Hospital (MABIH) in Sekupang, Riau Islands.

Batam Indonesia Free Trade Zone Authority (BP Batam) chairman Amsakar Achmad led the commencement ceremony for this project.

The project is situated within the Batam Tourism and International Healthcare Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

The initiative aims to strengthen the healthcare ecosystem of Indonesia and minimise overseas treatment outflows.

In the initial phase, the project will use 1.68ha of the 2.9ha site within the SEZ, followed by a second phase that will add support facilities, amenities, and speciality clinics for patients and families.

To be developed with support from the government and Apollo Hospitals India, the 11-floor hospital will be a green facility designed by HKS Singapore, Medical Planner.

It will feature 250 beds and one semi-basement, along with advanced technology across its centres of excellence for oncology, cardiovascular, orthopaedics, gastrohepatology, and neurology.

Mayapada Healthcare president commissioner Jonathan Tahir said: “The construction of MABIH is not only an investment in healthcare but also an investment in the future of the nation.

“We believe every Indonesian deserves access to international-standard healthcare without having to travel abroad.

“Through MABIH, we aim to strengthen Indonesia’s healthcare independence while enhancing Indonesians’ trust in the quality of domestic healthcare services.”

Achmad said: “With Mayapada’s international standards, residents who previously had to travel abroad for medical treatment can now receive care here. “We are even optimistic that Batam can attract international patients to seek treatment locally.”

Completion is set for 2027, positioning it as the first private international facility within an SEZ after the Bali International Hospital in Sanur SEZ owned by the government.

“Mayapada Healthcare begins Batam international hospital project in Indonesia” was originally created and published by Hospital Management, a GlobalData owned brand.
