In 2023, HOP Health was established as a cutting-edge platform to connect patients with doctors worldwide, allowing patients to get direct pricing from physicians without intermediaries. The platform aims to enhance Turkey’s market share in health tourism, which HOP Health‘s founder Dr. Eren Unal believes to be a crucial sector for the country’s economy. “As HOP Health, we aim not just to be one of the small or large players taking a slice of the pie but to be a value that grows the pie,” said Dr. Unal. The platform’s revenue target for this year is $18 million, with a goal of exceeding $100 million in the next two years.

Focusing on the growth of Turkey’s health tourism, Dr. Unal provided insights into HOP Health and shared future goals. “By centering on health tourism, HOP Health addresses the disadvantages brought by lack of registration and traceability through its digital platform. From accommodation to dining and shopping, the platform aims to maximize the share taken from health tourism by recommending every point that can touch the user,” explained Dr. Unal.

HOP Health identifies and addresses the lack of digitalization in health tourism with its 14 different modules that facilitate health services and bring patients and doctors together securely. The platform includes features such as online consultations, personalized offer cards, payment facilities, interpreter-assisted online examinations, and personal health assistants. Dr. Unal emphasized, “With these digital advancements, HOP Health stands out as a platform that professionally manages every process.”

The platform plans to offer services in all branches, including bariatric surgery, neurosurgery, dental treatment, general surgery, gynecology and obstetrics, medical aesthetics, orthopedics and traumatology, plastic surgery, otorhinolaryngology, radiation oncology, and hair transplantation. Additionally, through personalized services, users can experience the best possible travel experience tailored to their preferences, from culinary tastes to historical sites they wish to visit, accommodation choices, and activities.

With the global health tourism market exceeding $200 billion and Turkey’s market share surpassing $5 billion in 2022, the sector grows by an average of 25% annually. Dr. Unal stated, “We aim not just to be one of the many actors taking a slice of the pie in Turkey, but to be the value that grows the pie. We lead the way in bringing users from all over the world together with establishments. We establish partnerships with all actors who can expand the share we take from the market through our partner module.”

Dr. Unal also highlighted the platform’s revenue goals: “The platform offers various secure and user-friendly modules, providing advantages such as online consultation, payment flexibility, and personalized opportunities. By meeting the needs of both users and healthcare providers, we aim to contribute to the sector’s growth.” Currently, HOP Health ensures that hundreds of users access safe and accurate treatments each month, with a revenue target of $18 million for this year and a goal to exceed $100 million in two years.

By creating taxable and traceable value, HOP Health not only provides health services but also offers solutions for accommodation, travel, and other tourism activities, adding value to the sector. Dr. Unal noted, “With our pioneering role in digitalization, we are creating a marketplace for health tourism in Turkey. By mediating easier and safer access to health services for users, we expand the marketplace with our partners. We understand that health tourism services are not just about treatments; we know that the marketplace will grow in every area that users accessing health services in Turkey will reach.”

Addressing the lack of digitalization in the healthcare sector and the inability of current business models to go beyond websites, Dr. Unal said, “When we researched the sector, we saw that there was no marketplace for health tourism. We also had the opportunity to observe the problems faced by both doctors and patients in the sector, and we wanted to solve these issues and further develop the system. Thus, we took the first steps towards creating a health platform encompassing all health models in a market worth over $200 billion.”

Dr. Unal expressed their desire to support the Turkish economy by bringing high-qualified patients from abroad through an approach that combines health and tourism in Turkey. He pointed out that their ultimate goal is to make the Turkish health sector the locomotive of the national economy. In 2023, approximately 2 million people came to Turkey for health services, contributing about $5 billion in revenue. Dr. Unal emphasized that the number of unregistered patients and revenues worldwide and in Turkey is even higher than official records.
