Garmin data reveals key health and fitness trends in 2025

Garmin has released its 2025 Garmin Connect Data Report, highlighting overall fitness and health trends from customers around the world. The report, drawing data from tens of millions of Garmin watches, shows an 8% increase in total activities recorded compared to 2024, with racket sports seeing the biggest surge.

The findings from Garmin provide insights across demographics, activity types, and global locations, demonstrating how Garmin users prioritised health and wellbeing throughout the year.

Activity takeaways and growth
Garmin users recorded 8% more activities this year than in 2024, with the following activities seeing the largest year–on–year increase:

  • Racket sports: +67% (The largest increase, suggesting a boom in sports such as pickleball, padel and tennis)
  • Pilates: +46%
  • HIIT: +45%
  • Strength training: +29%
  • Indoor running: +16%
  • Diving: +16%
  • Hiking: +12%

Health and age trends
The data highlights how different age groups and demographics engaged with various activities, and key wellbeing differences:

  • Activity by Age: 18–29–year–olds recorded the most outdoor running. 50–59–year–olds led in indoor cycling, and those 70 years and older did the most golfing.
  • Sleep: Garmin users got nearly 1% better sleep this year, with an average sleep score of 71.
  • Stress: Women recorded lower average stress scores than men. Users in Indonesia had the highest stress scores, while those in the Netherlands had the lowest.
  • Body Battery: Younger users showed higher energy levels. 18–29–year–olds averaged a Body Battery score of 75, while users over 70 years old averaged 64. Portugal recorded the highest average Body Battery levels, and Japan the lowest.
  • Steps: On average, users took more steps per day in 2025. Garmin users in Hong Kong took the most average steps, exceeding 10,000 per day.

The report also includes feedback from Garmin ambassadors on how they use data to inform their training and recovery:

  • Tom Evans highlighted the vital nature of data for “spotting any trends and understanding how to get the most out of myself, especially with navigating life as a new parent.”
  • Katie Piper noted that tracking stats such as sleep, stress, and recovery helps her “choose a workout that works for me, avoiding overtraining which could lead to illness and injury.”
  • Ben Foster discussed balancing his cycling routine: “Being able to see all my stats in one place helps me to structure my cycling training and balance the social coffee and cake rides with all out efforts.”
